Language policy

Foreign languages teaching organisation :

Language courses are provided for all the school trainings; the number of hours being planned by the national reference frame.

Secondary Education for Vocational Training :

  • Regarding the BTEC National, the students from the tertiary sector (Commerce and Sales representation) are taught 2 compulsory foreign languages (English and Spanish), whereas the students from the industrial sector (Car or Motorbike Mechanics) must choose one foreign language (English or Spanish).
     
  • The students in  NVQ (Level 1) in Selling or Car/Motorbike Mechanics choose one foreign language (English or Spanish).
     
  • The students in Year 10 (3ème Prépa-Pro) are taught two foreign languages (English and Spanish).
     
  • Regarding the jewellery classes (NVQ or BTEC national “Jewellery Making”) the students follow 2 hours a week of English as a foreign language.  The choice of English as foreign language was obvious as this language becomes compulsory when they pursue their studies and is also very useful for their future career.
     
  • For the same reasons, apprentices in BTEC national Photography are only taught English.

Higher education:

  • Regarding the training for the « Higher National Degree in Jewellery Design », English is the first foreign language and 2 hours a week of teaching are provided.
    An optional second foreign language (2 hours a week) is proposed in the reference frame. The school has not provided this teaching yet, but is considering to add it.

Educational objectives :

  • Our goal is to make the students aware of the usefulness of the foreign languages  as a tool to communicate with their classmates but also within their professional fields. We aim at making our students reach some fluency, through oral presentations, individually or by groups, with digital media, work experience reports, projects reports...
     
  • We try to encourage the students’ autonomy in their research, work organisation, written productions...
     
  • Taking part in the Erasmus+ programme via the Erasmus charter and professional  mobilities fulfill this need  of autonomy and cultural openness.

 

 

 

Teaching methods :

  • For all the classes, the work is done by the whole class, by groups, or individually in order to diversify and go into the learning in depth .
    At Clément de Pémille secondary school, we connect the teaching of English or Spanish  to the teaching of each speciality (Jewellery, Mechanics, Commerce, Sales representation or Photography).

     
  • Teamwork with the colleagues of professional subjects and workshop is essential to make our students gain the linguistic skills linked to their speciality based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL)
     
  • E-twinning and e-learning platforms will be used to prepare our students.

Supporting, promoting and encouraging mobility

  • Support actions for mobility :
    The students are helped to find work placements abroad and carry out the study mobility application process (preparation of CV or cover letters, study agreement, telephone follow-up...). Mobility staff or students hosted by the school will be mentored by the Foreign Languages teachers during the first weeks in order to facilitate their integration and adaptation.


    Moreover, for the purpose of developing the students’ communicative skills, we intend to work with a language assistant.
    We will encourage the mobility students to share their experience through mentoring. We will provide courses of French as a Foreign Language for a better integration of the future foreign students we will host.

    We also plan to prepare our students to study incomings or  internship outgoings with some tutoring in Foreign languages or in  speciality subjects linked to the culture  of the country they will have the opportunity to discover during their study mobility. This support will be tutored by the Foreign Languages and Jewellery teachers and the school librarian. Roleplays will enable the students to practice telephone conversation, job interview, intercultural communication, everyday life situations ...

    They will enable to prepare our students to the Diploma of Language Competence (Diplôme de Compétence de Langue (DCL)) which assesses the level reached in a language according to the CEFRL.
     
  • Role of the Foreign Languages teachers within the international opening.:
    The school teachers take part in the specific linguistic preparation of the mobility applicants and establish partnerships with companies and higher education schools as part of their mission within the International Relations Office of the school.
