In Antwerp (Anvers) with Juliette - 3rdweek
Hi! My third week here is over! This week I worked again at Peter’s workshop, and most of the time I worked on the lost wax casted rings with animal shapes because we needed to put some pieces together. So first I cut the ring from the « tree » which was cast, then I cleaned it with files and other tools, after I made some granulation to add eyes for the animal, next I soldered the cast arms and finally I cleaned the jewel with little polish-tools on the suspended motor. When the ring was made of silver I added eyes and arms in brass and vice versa. On wednesday we went to Brussels for Peter’s course with students of the RHoK Academie. I worked on the ring I started on the first week, the one made so I could set a stone. I finished all the ring but I just let the setting for an other day at the end of the week. Most of the students are adults in that class. On friday Peter showed me how to set a stone on a « test ring » with different setter’s tools (I will show them in photos), so I set it and at the end he helped me but we had a problem, the setting broke, Peter was surprised but it seems like there was a problem with the brazing alloy because there was oxydation on the metal. Then I set the other stone on my ring but the same problem happened, so next week we’ll try with an other brazing alloy. I also visited Daisy’s workshop, Daisy is Peter’s wife. I really like her jewels, with pure shapes and with some stones. I will probably spend a day to work with her next week !! I didn’t visit other neighborhoods of Antwerp this week because the weather was rainy and I was also a bit sick because of the cold weather. This week-end I went again in La Roche to see my family, and saturday evening I ate a « mitraillette » : it’s a huge sandwich with far to many French fries inside. And we saw again the preparations of the Nivelles carnival, it was great !! See you next week! |

Salut! |
